The Swiss Agroscope Institute, part of the Federal Office of Agriculture, is a driving force for sustainable development in the fields of agriculture, food and the environment, providing the scientific and technological basis for agricultural and environmental policy decisions as well as regulatory enforcement. As a collaborative representative of the Agroscope Institute, MSR has developed products that have been used in a wide variety of research, animal monitoring, including breathing, walking, standing, lying and sleeping behavior monitoring.

Statistical analysis showed that gait and breed type had a significant effect on the results. There was no overlap in the range of values for the gaits, so that the gaits could be clearly differentiated when considering the Pony and the Large Horse separately from the Icelandic Horse. The validation results show that the MSR145 DataCORDER is clearly suitable for differentiating gaits in horses. Due to the high measurement accuracy, the acceleration sensor is a favorable alternative to conventional pedometers.
